What NATE Certification is and Why it Matters

November 08, 2016

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning in the Niagara Region always tells you about how our service techs are NATE-certified, and while it sounds reassuring, what does it truly mean?

NATE is an abbreviation for North American Technician Excellence and, according to their website, is the nation’s largest certification organization for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and refrigeration technicians. The organization was developed by and has been supported by the entire HVAC and refrigeration industry but not everyone in the industry is required to be NATE-certified. The certification is discretionary and technicians can service heating, cooling, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment without being certified by NATE.

It’s important to Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning that our technicians are NATE-certified to be sure we are sending the most qualified and trained technicians into your home. To make sure professionals meet these benchmarks, the NATE-certification exams validate real-world working knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration systems for technicians. The exams are knowledge-based tests that assess the technician’s knowledge of these standards.

Since Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning focuses on the HVAC side of NATE-certification instead of refrigeration, there are only certain areas relevant to our technicians. NATE test candidates may earn installation and/or service certification in one or more of the specialty areas listed below:

  • Air Conditioning
