When the Dallas-Fort Worth area Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning locations (Calverley Service Experts, Service Experts Heating and Air Conditioning Plano/DFW, and Levy and Son) were getting ready to host a booth at the Walk MS events in North Dallas and Fort Worth, they had the idea to offer something to the event participants.
“The team thought an APCO Air Purifier was the ideal product to auction off since this spring the company has been promoting saving the air, and it helps remove germs and contaminants from indoor air that can aggravate allergies and respiratory ailments,” said Rob Haines, Marketing Manager for Service Experts.
Kim Speck won the Fresh-Aire UV APCO Air Purifier when she bid the highest at the Dallas Walk MS event. Kim first learned about the APCO a few months before when she saw an article discussing the significance of indoor air quality.
“I wasn’t too interested at the time because I didn’t understand its compatibility with almost any HVAC system, and figured it was another one of those “luxuries” that was beyond my budget. When it came up at the Walk MS event, they were talking about the significance of good indoor air quality for MS sufferers and I immediately thought of my father.”
Kim’s father was 91 and had been living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for over twenty years. He was required to be on oxygen 24/7/365 for the past four years.
“The allergens in the air aggravated him even though I would install the higher-priced 3M Filtrate brand of filters. The filters just weren’t enough. He often caught pneumonia even though he had only left the house over the past four years to visit his doctors.”
The pneumonia would constantly result in Kim’s father spending no less than two months in the hospital and rehabilitation center. Just prior to the Walk MS event in Addison, Kim’s father had spent three weeks in the hospital and a couple days at the rehab facility recovering from two strings of pneumonia. After being there to see her father go through so much, Kim resolved she was going to “roll the dice” and bid on the APCO, which had two great benefits: her dad would finally come home to “clean” air and all the money went to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Kim was thrilled when she found out she had bid the highest and planned on calling to get the APCO installed in her father’s residence before he was sent home from the rehab clinic. Unfortunately, three days after the MS Walk, Kim’s father was brought home to hospice care and passed away peacefully four days later. The APCO arrived the week after he passed.
Kim chose to have the APCO installed in her own home since her husband has issues with allergies. A few weeks after it was inserted, she was cooking onions and noted she couldn’t smell any stenches once she the meal was over. She’s looking forward to seeing long-term effects of the system.
Everyone here at Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning sends their thoughts and prayers to Kim and her family.
