4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

The season of spring may have arrived but in Niagara Falls it’s not all warm and snug outside. Your furnace has been running for months striving to keep the inside of your home comfortable, so now is the time to make sure you’re giving your furnace some love. If you hear funny noises or the heating system has shut down, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a strong gas smell, you almost surely need furnace repair work and you should call Niagara Home Services by Enercare as soon as possible.

Before you assume that you need a furnace repair technician, read these tips from Niagara Home Services by Enercare.

  • Confirm your thermostat has been changed to “heat.”

It may sound obvious, but we are always running and life happens, so it can be easy to overlook the simple fixes. Forgetting to move over the thermostat can make you believe you need furnace repair when really you can fix the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Speaking of switches, make sure your furnace switch is on the up, or “on” position. Again, an easy miss, especially since this switch isn’t one you might look at usually. Most systems have built-in delays so be patient when you turn your furnace on and give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about calling our furnace repair man.

  • Swap your furnace air filter.

You should swap out your home’s air filters around every three months to help your heating system run more efficiently and postpone any furnace repair work. An unclean air filter is one of the most typical reasons for poor performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for illness causing microbes and cause you and your family to become sick. Replace your filter to keep both your furnace and your home healthy.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Make sure your circuit breaker (the one that controls your furnace) is in the “off” position and not the middle. If the breaker has been moved to the middle for some reason, move the breaker to “off” and then push it back to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs could be expensive, so avoid a possible issue altogether with regular maintenance from Niagara Home Services by Enercare. However, if you ever do need furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to help you with all your heating needs.
